Somerset Academy Oaks Celebrates New Campus Construction With Community Ceremonies

Somerset Academy Oaks is officially expanding—opening a brand-new campus directly across the street from its current location at 6070 Babcock Road. To mark this milestone, the Somerset Academies of Texas Board of Directors, families, community members, and supporters gathered for two special events: a community celebration on December 3rd and the official Steel Topping Ceremony on December 5th.

Board Members Matthew Cox, Rebekah Holt, and Michael Fogrety were in attendance. During the ceremony, Board Member Matthew Cox delivered remarks commemorating Somerset Oaks’ 10 years of serving students in San Antonioand celebrating the next chapter as the campus expands to a new building designed to serve both elementary and middle school students.

As part of the tradition, students, faculty, staff, leaders, and community partners were invited to sign the steel beam that will be placed at the top of the structure. A topping-off ceremony—an ancient tradition with roots in Scandinavian and Norse culture—honors construction crews and marks the moment the final beam is set in place. Today, the ritual symbolizes good fortune, progress, and the near-completion of a building’s frame.

Somerset Academy Oaks looks forward to opening its new campus and continuing its commitment to high-quality education for families across San Antonio.
